THE SEAGULL

Dir.Aiden Condron

Treplev is in his early twentys,he is the only child the actress, Irina Arkadina. Konstain is anxious & vulnerable about how his first play will go, which he wrote, produced, & directed located by the lake of his uncle Sorin's farm.

He wanted to show something that had never been done before, to stand out amoungst the crowd speaking about the universe and the exsitance of mankind

Treplev wanted to make sure everyone would be proud of him, especially to get the love and affection of his famous mother and the approval of her lover Boris Tregorin, a successful writer.

Treplev chooses not to write a part for his mother, but for their neighbor and Treplev's true love Nina, who steals the lime light for Irina Arkadina.

Treplev complains about how he is his secluded from his mother's friends and companions becuse he has not found his callingin life.

He is also depressed because he is madly in love with Nina who, in the first act, seems more interested in what she can gain from knowing Treplev and not in his love.

Treplev is caught up on angered that his mother barely notices & appreciates him as much as Dorn and Sorin compliment him about his failed play.

Treplev, like his unrequited fan, Masha, reminds us of the type of person we all know who enjoys being upset more than being happy but complains about it anyway.

Treplev is sometimes considered a Hamletlike character because of the parallel relationship between him, Arkadina, and Trigorin with Shakespeare's characters of Hamlet, Gertrude, and Claudius.

The characters in The Seagull even mention quotes from Hamlet in the first act when Arkadina shows off her acting and teases Treplev.

Later, in Act Four when he becomes a published writer, Treplev still feels empty without Nina.

He desires Nina's love even after she left him for his mother's lover and kills himself after eating his manuscript when she shows herself to be incapable of loving him back once again.

Treplev fills the void of love in his life by taking his life into his own hands.
